This week in our How-To Series you will learn how to use a Hook and Eye Clasp for Leather. This hook and eye clasp has a fancy crown shaped connector and is really quite versitile to use.
As you can see, I used a braided cord with this clasp instead of leather. I wanted to demonstrate how easy this component is to use with many different types of materials. I really like the construction of this clasp. Since each side is one solid piece, you don’t have to worry about having jump rings to connect the parts. Just a little bit of glue, a pinch of your pliers and you are good to go.
When using this clasp, you may want to use a nylon jaw plier instead of a chain nose, like I used above. I wanted the clasp to have a little bit of a distressed look to it, so the scuffing doesn’t bother me at all. If that is something you are concerned with, either use a nylon jar plier or cover the end of your chain nose with a bit of tape.
We also carry a line of end cap connectors that look just like the eye piece of the clasp above. So if you like the look of this end cap but don’t care for a hook and eye type clasp, that may be an option for you.
