MarketAboveSaturday, August 3rd marked our first ever (and soon to be ANNUAL!) Shipwreck Beads Artisan Market! After months of planning and stressing out it all fell into place.  We had over 50 vendors participate and it was an all around wonderful event.  The day began a little damp and gloomy.  The previous afternoon saw rain for the first time in over a month.  A co-worker and I had spent the better part of Friday afternoon taping off the spaces and marking booth numbers in chalk only to have it rain later that evening.

The vendors were understanding and patient with me as I ran around like a crazy person trying to get everyone settled in. By the time the 10 o’clock opening rolled around, every one was set up and ready to go! I was so impressed by the quality of the vendors who attended.  While we expected to have a lot of jewelry vendors, (hello, bead store!) I was pleased to see that everyone had their own style and niche.  Several vendors had never done an outdoor show, or even a show at all, and the feedback we received from them was outstanding.

ROXY 94.5 was on site from 10-1 for a live radio remote. They are always a pleasure to work with and we would have loved for them to stay for the full day. Listening to music always helps lighten the mood and create a fun atmosphere.  We also had Heavenly Hog BBQ and Smokery on hand to provide delicious food including their amazing pulled pork and tri-tip sandwiches.  Heavenly Hog opened up in Tumwater in June and it was great to help them get some exposure on our side of town.

For a first year event, there weren’t any major unforeseen issues, although I have started to compile a list of things we can do better next year.  More picnic tables for one and I think it couldn’t hurt to re-evaluate the car unloading situation.  There were some hairy moments where I was afraid of booths being knocked over or cars being blocked in.  It never came to that, but I can’t help but think there could have been a better way!

I’ve included a full list of vendors with links to their Facebook pages or Etsy stores if they were available.  You can also check out the Shipwreck Beads Artisan Market page of Facebook for more pictures.

If you didn’t get the chance to attend the Artisan Market this year, you really missed out.  It was a very memorable event and hopefully the first in a new annual tradition for Shipwreck Beads.  Keep an ear out because we are in the beginning stages of planning for an indoor holiday event.  I will keep you posted on more details for that as they come about.  I hope you take some time to look at the Facebook page and visit some of the vendors sites. You will be happy that you did!

If you went to the market, tell me what you’d thought in the comments! I would love to hear feedback from vendors as well as customers who attended the event. Have a great day!

I really enjoyed attending this event and hope to participate next time. It was nice to meet you, Kelsey, and to say “hi” to vendors I know and to meet some new vendors. I bought goodies from several booths. Everything looked really great–esp. impressive for the first time out. Way to go!
